The 2009 Newbery and Caldecott awards for children's literature were announced by the ALSC. Neil Gaiman's "The Graveyard Book" won the Newbery (HarperCollins Children's Book). "The House in the Night," illustrated by Beth Krommes and written by Susan Marie Swanson, won the Caldecott (Houghton Mifflin Co.).
