Once a family court lawyer, now a New Zealand primary school teacher, Anne Wilkins spends what little spare time she has writing stories—lots of them. Her short fiction has appeared, or is forthcoming, in Apex Magazine, The Dark, Cast of Wonders, Midnight Echo (Australasian Horror Writers Association), Tales to Terrify, Cosmic Horror Monthly, and more. She is the winner of the June 2024 Elegant Literature Prize, the 2023 Autumn Writers Battle, the 2023 Cambridge Autumn Festival Short Story Competition, and the 2022 Writers’ Online Twist Short Story Competition. Anne was a finalist for the 2025 Kurt Vonnegut Speculative Literary Prize, the 2024 London Independent Story Prize (LISP), the 2025 Bristol Short Story Prize and placed third in the Hammond House 2024 International Literary Prize. Her work is featured in a number of anthologies, and in 2025 she was appointed as a preliminary judge for Elegant Literature.
Anne’s love of writing is fuelled by copious amounts of coffee, reading and hope. She is supported in her writing journey by her ever-patient husband, two wonderful daughters, and of course two feline writing assistants. The force is with her, always (or she hopes it is).
